Safer Pool Access with a New Ladder in Parrearra

A deteriorated ladder at this Parrearra rental pool had become unsafe and awkward to use. We replaced it with a new S.R. Smith ladder, relocated it to a more practical position and repaired the old mounting points.

OUTCOMEThe Problem
At this Parrearra rental property, a narrow residential lap pool approximately 15 years old had reached the point where its existing pool ladder needed replacing.
The ladder had deteriorated badly around the points where the steps attached to the rails. The corrosion had become significant enough that the ladder was no longer something we considered suitable to leave in use by the tenants.
There was also another issue with the original installation.
The ladder had been positioned along the side of the narrow pool, where the surrounding pool edge provided limited space for getting in and out safely and comfortably. It also appeared that a ladder had already been replaced there previously, leaving two sets of mounting holes in the pool surround.
Rather than simply installing another ladder in the same position, we looked at how the access could be improved at the same time.
Our approach
Clarity Pool Services quoted the managing real estate agency to supply and install a new S.R. Smith Narrow Ladder.
Once approval was received, we removed the existing ladder and relocated the replacement to the end of the pool.
This provided a wider and more practical area for entry and exit, improved footing around the ladder and avoided adding another set of mounting points to the already marked side of the pool.
New mounting points were core drilled for the replacement ladder and the redundant holes from the previous installations were filled.
Removing the old ladder also exposed noticeable rust staining on the pool surround, which was cleaned as part of the work.
Why we relocated the ladder
Replacing equipment does not always mean putting the new equipment exactly where the old equipment was.
In this case, the existing ladder location was awkward because the pool edge beside it was particularly narrow. There were also already multiple mounting holes in that section of the pool surround.
Installing the new ladder at the end of the lap pool provided better footing, easier access and a cleaner overall result.
The work completed
• Removed the deteriorated existing pool ladder
• Supplied and installed a new S.R. Smith Narrow Ladder
• Relocated the access point from the side to the end of the pool
• Core drilled new mounting points for the replacement ladder
• Filled the redundant mounting holes from the previous installations
• Cleaned rust staining left around the old ladder position
• Checked the completed installation for safe and practical access
The Result
The pool was left with a secure new ladder in a much more practical position.
Relocating the ladder to the end of the pool made entry and exit easier for the tenants and avoided further mounting work along the already compromised side of the pool.
Once the redundant holes had been filled and the staining from the previous ladder cleaned up, the surrounding area also looked considerably neater.
The property manager, owner and tenants were all very pleased with the finished result, and the pool once again had safe, straightforward ladder access.
