Choosing the right equipment for your pool
Pool equipment works as a system. The pump needs to suit the pool and filtration system, the filter needs enough capacity for the required water flow, and the chlorination system needs to be appropriate for the pool size and how it is used.
There can also be practical considerations when replacing existing equipment, including available space, plumbing positions, electrical requirements and compatibility with other equipment such as solar pool heating.
We assess what is already there, discuss what you need from the pool and recommend equipment that makes sense for the installation.

Pool Pumps
There is no single pump that is right for every pool.
The best choice depends on the pool size, filtration system, existing plumbing, required flow rate and other equipment connected to the system. Sometimes a straightforward like for like replacement is the most practical solution. In other situations, changing to a different pump or a variable speed model makes more sense.
Variable speed pumps can reduce electricity use by allowing the pump to operate at lower speeds when full flow is not required, but the pump still needs to be correctly sized for the pool and any equipment such as solar heating.
We work with a range of established pool equipment brands and recommend the pump that best suits the individual installation.
Salt Water Chlorinators
For pool owners wanting a straightforward salt chlorination system, we particularly like the Pentair FreeFlo Salt Chlorinators and AutoChlor Classic Chlorinators.
They are simple but highly reliable chlorinators without unnecessary complexity and are available in different sizes to suit different pools.
As with any chlorinator, correct sizing matters. A unit needs sufficient chlorine production for the pool volume, climate and expected swimming load rather than simply matching whatever was previously installed.
Sand Filters
A good sand filter is simple, effective and can provide many years of reliable filtration when correctly sized and maintained.
One of the filters we regularly recommend is the Onga Leisuretime II sand filter. It is a straightforward, well proven option that offers good filtration, easy operation and solid value for many residential pools.
The correct filter size will depend on the pool, pump and required water flow, so we assess the existing system before recommending a replacement.
Replacement does not always mean like for like
When an old pump, filter or chlorinator finally reaches the end of its life, replacing it with exactly the same type of equipment is not always the best option.
Pool equipment changes over time, and the way the pool is now used may also be different from when the original system was installed.

Repair or replace?
Not every equipment problem requires a new unit.
Where practical, we look for a sensible repair first. A leaking pump, faulty chlorinator or poorly performing filter may only need a replacement part or other repair.
When equipment is badly worn, becoming unreliable, parts are difficult to obtain or the cost of repair no longer represents good value, we can explain the replacement options.
